If you can’t handle being bitten, than you can’t handle keeping a snake.
You’re asking a dog not to bark.
Granted, snake bites do not always occur. In my time I’ve been bitten by only two of my snakes. I couldn’t even begin to count how many times I’ve been struck at. It is the nature of the beast. Even my garter snakes have stuck at me.
Your best bet, IMO, is to find a more mature snake that has already been accustomed to human interaction.

There is no such thing as a garden snake.
The best beginner snake is a corn snake. They rarely bite, and it doesn’t hurt if they do. They are hardy and docile, not to mention good looking. I have one now that is 19 years old.
There are several good books available on this species, you should read up before you get one.

Corn snakes are really docile as are ball pythons. The corn snakes are a bit easier to keep as they are more tolerant of lower temps & usually eat very well & easily. A snake that just about never bites is the South East Asian Krait, a very beautiful snake , but it does have the drawback of being highly venomous. It’s venom is just as powerful as the venom of the cobra, but they are noted for never biting.
BTW: I’m NOT recommending that you get a krait, they are best left to experienced hot snake handlers.

Ball Pythons are very mild mannered. They enjoy the interaction with people and are low maintenance. They are good eaters and like to be handled. They are also very curious. You can’t go wrong with a Ball.
